The meter (or metre) is a unit of length. It is named after the Greek word μέτρον, which means measure.
A meter is the equivalent of 0.001 km, 100 cm, 1000 mm and ≈39.37 in.
The metric system has submultiples (decimeter, centimeter, millimeter, micrometer) and multiples (decameter, hectometer, kilometer, etc). This unit belongs to a system of measurement known as the SI (International System of Units).
