OGG is a free, open-source multimedia container format developed by the Xiph.Org Foundation. The most common audio codec inside OGG files is Vorbis, a lossy audio codec designed as a patent-free alternative to MP3 and AAC.
OGG Vorbis offers better sound quality than MP3 at equivalent bitrates and is widely used in video games, open-source software, and web applications. Firefox, Chrome, and Android all support OGG natively, but Apple devices do not.
MP3 (MPEG Audio Layer 3) is the most widely supported audio format in the world. Developed in the early 1990s, it became the standard for digital music distribution.
Every device, media player, car stereo, and operating system supports MP3 playback. While OGG Vorbis is technically more efficient, MP3's universal compatibility makes it the safest choice for sharing audio files.

iPhone, iPad, and Mac don't natively support OGG playback. If you receive OGG audio files or download them from games, converting to MP3 lets you play them on any Apple device.
Almost no car stereo supports OGG files. Converting to MP3 ensures your audio plays in any car via USB, Bluetooth, or AUX connection.
When sending audio files to others, MP3 is the safest format. Everyone can play MP3 regardless of their device or operating system, while OGG may not open for many recipients.
Many audio editors, video editors, and presentation tools don't support OGG input. MP3 is accepted by virtually all multimedia software.
